Description

This coffee takes its name from the Spanish word Terruño, meaning “my land” or “homestead.” It is used to identify coffees that come from the homesteads of the 260 small-holder farmers in Nayarit, Mexico. Nearly all of these cooperative growers are clustered around an extinct volcano, Cerro San Juan, located immediately to the west of Tepic, the capital of Nayarit. These farmers take great pride in their coffee using safe and sustainable shade techniques. Each farmer owns at most a few football pitch-sized plots. The beauty of such small farms is the first-class attention to detail shown by the growers, and the companies that work with them, to get their coffee sold abroad; the level of care and expertise at every stage from picking to bagging could not be replicated by machine.
